We haven't really seen a whole lot from Matt Reeves' DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, but with the release of DAWN only a few months away, expect to be seeing a lot more from this one very soon. For now we'll take what we can get, and today we have two new behind-the-scenes pics along with a little insight from Andy Serkis (who plays ape-leader Caesar) as to what's going on in the pics.
Empire provided these latest peeks at DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, as they did earlier this week when we brought you another behind-the-scenes look. In this first pic we see Toby Kebbell's furious Koba and his belligerent faction of ape agitators. I gotta say, they certainly have the simian posturing down to a tee!
This second pic focuses on Andy Serkis' ape-leader Caesar, who seems more warmly inclined towards humans including Jason Clarke's Malcolm and Keri Russell's Ellie.
Says Serkis of the above shot…
"This is now a community of about 2,000 apes. For the first eight years [after the humanity-devastating virus], the apes were looking down from Muir Woods to San Francisco and could see lights and fires, but now it's gone very quiet. Until this day in our film when this small band of humans comes up. That's suddenly a huge, dividing moment in the lives of these apes. There are some particularly strong reactions to the humans and that's the course of the story."
DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES will be hitting theaters later this year on July 11 with Andy Serkis, Keri Russell, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Judy Greer, and Jocko Sims starring.
A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.
