Oculus featurette looks behind the terror

Last Updated on July 22, 2021

Having just seen OCULUS, I can recommend it as a weird, imaginative good time for those horror fans out there seeking something a bit different. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it certainly provides you with enough twists and turns to disorient you, and best of all, it does proud the very small subgenre of “killer mirror” films.

Here’s a featurette for the Mike Flanagan-directed film, which examines the ins and outs of making something like a haunted mirror scary. If you want to see a bug batch of clips from OCULUS, head over to our video section.

OCULUS is a spine-chilling supernatural tale of two damaged siblings (Gillan and Thwaites) who, as children, witnessed their parents’ harrowing descent into madness and murder. At long last, brother and sister reunite as adults to expose and destroy the paranormal entity they believe is responsible: the Lasser Glass — a legendary mirror their family once owned.

Karen Gillan and Brenton Thwaites star with Rory Cochrane, Katee Sackhoff, Annalise Basso, Garrett Ryan, James Lafferty and Miguel Sandoval. OCULUS is directed by Mike Flanagan from a script he co-wrote with Jeff Howard, based on a short film Flanagan and Jeff Seidman made in 2005.
