Robert Kirkman’s Outcast pilot enters pre-production at Cinemax

"The Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman is hoping that demons are the new zombies as the TV adaptation of his "Outcast" series is going into production at Cinemax.

Kirkman developed "Outcast" with FOX International Channels (FIC) at the same time he was developing the comic book series of the same name for his Skybound imprint at Image Comics. The first issue of the comic book, which was released in June of this year, has not only exceeded "The Walking Dead" comic book sales at their peak, but has also been met with overwhelming enthusiasm from fans and critics alike. The second issue will debut at Comic-Con tomorrow.

Marking Kirkman’s first time penning a pilot, "Outcast" follows…

…Kyle Barnes, a young man who has been plagued by possession since he was a child. Now an adult, he embarks on a journey to find answers but what he uncovers could mean the end of life on Earth as we know it.

Kirkman will serve as Executive Producer alongside David Alpert of Circle of Confusion; Sue Naegle; Chris Black; and Sharon Tal Yguado of FIC.

There are certain ways to tell a story, and certain mechanics and things that work really well in comics that don't work well on television and vice versa. There are certain opportunities to be taken when you adapt something into television, where you have motion and sound, where you can expand on and change things in very cool ways in a manner that wouldn't have worked so well in comics. To be honest, that's the fun part and the challenge of saying, "This is going to be moving and there's going to be actors, and it's going to have sound, and there are different things to be done." It's cool to limit the same story and think about it in a different way.
