Japanese director Hideo Nakata—the man behind horror classics RINGU and DARK WATER—is gearing up to return to his roots with GHOST THEATER, inspired by his 1996 horror GHOST ACTRESS, according to Screen Daily.
Japanese studio Nikkatsu is attending EFM with Hideo Nakata, where GHOST ACTRESS has been receiving offers even before footage is available. Actresses Haruka Shimazaki and Rika Adachi head the cast of the film, which is currently in post-production.
GHOST THEATER is inspired by GHOST ACTRESS, which was made before he filmed his classic RING franchise, which kicked off a worldwide interest in J-horror. While GHOST ACTRESS followed a vengeful spirit that drives a movie crew to insanity, GHOST THEATER is set in a haunted playhouse. No other plot details are known at this time, but with Nakata at the helm we can expect some genuinely scary thrills. Nakata rarely disappoints.
I'm still looking forward to peeping his MONSTERZ, which we shared a trailer for last year. More on GHOST THEATER as we hear it.
