PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE GHOST DIMENSION is finally emerging from the seventh circle of Production Hell with tons of new information and some wicked photos!
Says producer Jason Blum:
"It's coming to an end. This is it, the finale. We're saying it before the movie opens. We're not going to grind this horror franchise into the ground. This will keep Paranormal Activity as part of this culture and this particular time in a really fantastic way… We couldn't go just teasing. All the questions that everyone has asked from the past PARANORMAL ACTIVITY films: What does Toby look like? What's the backstory to the families? These questions have been teased out. Now they will be answered."
I think we can reasonably assume that the word "final" is flexible. Hell, the FRIDAY THE 13TH franchise has already ended twice. But Blum has given us a lot to chew on by tying up these loose ends. Like, is it absolutely necessary to show us Toby? The entire franchise has been built on shadowy fears of the things that go bump in the night (except PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4, which was built on terrible product placement and a heavy dose of LSD), and it is common knowledge that the scariest things are the ones we can't see.
Will the film be quite as scary when we see some cheeky grinning CGI demon knocking over pots and pans? I'm willing to be proven wrong on this, but right now the prospect of seeing Toby sounds about as scary as Dobby the House Elf.
In addition to the following deliciously over-the-top photos, some new plot details have been released:
THE GHOST DIMENSION, directed by Gregory Plotkin, follows a new family, the Fleeges — father Ryan (Chris J. Murray), mother Emily (Brit Shaw) and their young daughter Leila (Ivy George) — who move into a house and discover a video camera and a box of tapes in the garage.
When they look through the camera's lens, they begin to see the paranormal activity happening around them — including the re-emergence of young Kristi and Katie.
This will all be filmed in 3D and feature an encore performance from Katie Featherston, the hardworking cutie pie that keeps getting dragged back into these things. Maybe we'll finally discover why she sent her successfully stolen child off to be adopted in Arizona. Or not. Whatever. Snark aside, THE GHOST DIMENSION looks like it will be a heap of fun even if it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE GHOST DIMENSION will haunt theaters on October 23rd.
