A trailer has arrived online for what appears to be a very interesting project from director Raul Garcia, an anthology film that brings five stories written by Edgar Allan Poe to the screen in animated form.
Titled EXTRAORDINARY TALES, the movie
offers heart-pounding takes on The Tell-Tale Heart, The Pit and the Pendulum, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Facts in the Case of Mr. Valdemar, and The Masque of the Red Death. Each tale is given a unique animated look, inspired by sources as diverse as classic Hollywood black-and-white monster films, or the pulpy feel of EC Comics, and narrated by a stable of legendary genre directors and actors.
The very impressive vocal cast includes Sir Christopher Lee, Julian Sands, Roger Corman, Guillermo del Toro, and Bela Lugosi. While the others each recorded their narration exclusively for the film, with Sir Christopher's recording being one of his final performances, Lugosi's, of course, was not. The man died nearly sixty years ago. Lugosi's narration of The Tell-Tale Heart comes from a recording made in the 1940s.
It's taken a while for EXTRAORDINARY TALES to get to this point. We first heard about it in 2011, at which time it was expected to be ready for release in 2012. Now that it's finally complete, It sounds like it will be perfect for an October viewing, and it's set to come out just in time for Halloween.
EXTRAORDINARY TALES will be in theatres and available on demand on October 23rd.
