Alfredson directs Fassbender, Ferguson, and Gainsbourg in The Snowman

Director Tomas Alfredson's 2008 coming-of-age vampire drama LET THE RIGHT ONE IN is one of my favorite films of all time, so I'm very glad to hear that he'll be venturing back toward genre territory with the "terrifying thriller" THE SNOWMAN (a project Martin Scorsese was attached to several years ago.)

Based on the novel by Jo Nesbø, THE SNOWMAN has the following synopsis:

When an elite crime squad’s lead detective investigates the disappearance of a victim on the first snow of winter, he fears an elusive serial killer may be active again. With the help of a brilliant recruit, the cop must connect decades-old cold cases to the brutal new one if he hopes to outwit this unthinkable evil before the next snowfall.

Alfredson has assembled a great trio of actors to help him bring the story to life, casting Michael Fassbender as the lead detective, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – ROGUE NATION's breakthrough star Rebecca Ferguson as the brilliant recruit, and Charlette Gainsbourg in an unspecified role.

A production of Working Title Films, in association with Another Park Film, THE SNOWMAN is set to be released by Universal Pictures on Friday, October 13th, 2017.

Filming begins on January 18th, 2016 and will take place in Norway in Oslo, Bergen, and the area of Rjukan.
