The Mitch Hyman-created character Bubba the Redneck Werewolf has been tearing his way through the pages of comic books since 1996, and after twenty years he is finally making his way to the screen in a live action cinematic adaptation.
At one point set to be a directorial effort for Sid Haig, who was also going to be playing the eponymous character, BUBBA THE REDNECK WEREWOLF ended up being directed by Brendan Jackson Rogers, with Fred Lass starring as Bubba.
The set-up:
Welcome to Cracker County, Florida! Join a host of riotous hillbillies as they fight to save their town of Broken Taint from the forces of evil. It’s a darn good thing they’ve got Bubba the Redneck Werewolf on their side! Now if only they can pull him away from his beer and chicken wings…
Stephen Biro wrote the screenplay. The film's cast also includes Malone Thomas, Gary Norris, Sara Humbert, Chris Stephens, Gail Fleming, and Hyman himself as The Devil.
A release date has not yet been announced for the movie, but we do have a poster, trailer, and a handful of stills to hold us over in the meantime.
I've never read an issue of the comic book so I'm not familiar with Bubba, but this definitely looks like a movie I would like to watch.
