To the chagrin of many a horror fan, Fox is moving forward with a television series that is described as a “modern reinvention” of the 1973 classic THE EXORCIST.
Written by Jeremy Slater (THE LAZARUS EFFECT), this TV take on The Exorcist is
a propulsive, serialized psychological thriller following two very different men tackling one family’s case of horrifying demonic possession and confronting the face of true evil.
As the pilot episode moves toward production, the series has landed its first cast member, with Brianne Howey signing on to play the role of series regular Charlotte, a former ballet dancer who has become depressed and antisocial since suffering a terrible accident. Charlotte has become so closed off and guarded that her mother begins to suspect that she may be under the influence of a demon, a suggestion that Charlotte herself would just laugh off.
That definitely doesn’t sound like anyone from the movie, which is a step in the right direction as far as I’m concerned. If there’s going to be an Exorcist TV show, I wouldn’t want it to be about poor little Regan.
Fans of genre television may recognize Howey from her role as Melanie Dorkus on another Fox series, Scream Queens.
