This is not a good year to be in the entertainment business. There was a huge surge in deaths this weekend, as we lost original Lois Lane Noel Neill, Iranian director Abba Kiarostami, and DEER HUNTER director Michael Cimino among many many others, but one we musn’t ignore is Robin Hardy, who passed away at 86 years old this weekend.
Director of the widely revered 1973 cult film THE WICKER MAN, Robin Hardy was born in England on October 2nd, 1929. He may not have been a prolific director, but the contributions from his directorial debut still linger in the genre to this day. Hardy, who followed his film with the 1986 THE FANTASIST and the 2011 THE WICKER TREE ( a “companion” rather than a sequel), had plans to make a third WICKER film entitled THE WRATH OF THE GODS, but that project probably won’t see the light of the day, especially now.
Our hearts go out to Hardy’s family, friends, and fans. May he rest in peace.
