Writer/director Nicolas Pesce's THE EYES OF MY MOTHER, a "haunting and unnerving gothic tale" that was shot in black and white, was acquired for distribution through Magnet Releasing after screening at Sundance earlier this year. Coinciding with another festival screening that is scheduled for this weekend (THE EYES OF MY MOTHER will be showing at Fantastic Fest on Saturday the 24th at 5:15pm) Magnet has released a trailer online that offers a look at the film that has been impressing and horrifying the audience members who have gotten a chance to see it.
Pesce's feature debut, THE EYES OF MY MOTHER tells the following story:
In their secluded farmhouse, a mother, formerly a surgeon in Portugal, teaches her daughter, Francisca, to understand anatomy and be unfazed by death. One afternoon, a mysterious visitor shatters the idyll of Francisca's family life, deeply traumatizing the young girl, but also awakening unique curiosities. Though she clings to her increasingly reticent father, Francisca's loneliness and scarred nature converge years later when her longing to connect with the world around her takes on a dark form.
Kika Magalhães, Will Brill, Flora Diaz, Paul Nazak, Clara Wong, Diana Agostini, and Olivia Bond star.
The trailer definitely has me intrigued to see the full film. If you're not able to catch it at a festival screening, Magnet will be releasing THE EYES OF MY MOTHER on VOD and in theatres on December 2nd.
