Roger Corman’s Death Race 2050 gets a trailer and January release

A few days ago, we got a look at the New York Comic-Con exclusive poster for producer Roger Corman's DEATH RACE 2050, his return to the world of his 1975 Paul Bartel-directed classic DEATH RACE 2000, which starred David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone. Now the coolness continues with the release of a trailer and the confirmation of the film's release date.

Earlier this week, we could only tell you that DEATH RACE 2050 would be reaching DVD, Blu-ray, and digital HD sometime in 2017. Now we know for sure that the day when you can get your hands on a copy of this movie is January 17, 2017.

Directed by G.J. Echternkamp from a screenplay he wrote with Matt Yamashita, DEATH RACE 2050 stars Manu Bennett, Malcolm McDowell, Burt Grinstead, Marci Miller, Folake Olowofoyeku, Anessa Ramsey, Yancy Butler, and Charlie Farrell. 

The synopsis:

In the not-too-distant future, America is controlled by an all-powerful corporate government that keeps the masses placated with violent virtual-reality entertainment. The event of the year is the Death Race, where a motley assortment of drivers compete in a cross-country road race, scoring points for running down pedestrians and killing each other. The reigning champion and popular favorite is half-man, half-machine Frankenstein — but little does he know he’s taken on a rebel spy as his co-pilot.

The Look of 2050 – An insider look at how the film’s visual style came together, including how shooting in Peru helped set the tone of the picture and how the costumes became stars in and of themselves.

The trailer can be viewed below and looks goofy as hell, an update of the original's style for the CGI age. I'll be watching this one in January for sure.
