They've finally done it. After releasing trailers featuring the music of Kanye West and Esterly/Austin Jenckes, the marketing department working on the cinematic adaptation of the ASSASSIN'S CREED video game franchise has finally released a trailer that doesn't have jarringly out of place music. Instead, they stuck with an orchestral score this time around and the latest trailer comes off much better because of it.
Michael Fassbender stars in the film as
Callum Lynch who, through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, is able to experience the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.
Marion Cotillard, Michael K. Williams, Jeremy Irons, Ariane Labed, and Brendan Gleeson round out the cast.
Directed by Justin Kurzel, ASSASSIN'S CREED is scheduled to reach theatres on December 21st. I'm feeling more inclined to see the movie after watching this trailer than I felt after watching the previous two, but I'm still certain that I'm not going to enjoy this as much as I enjoy the TRANCERS take on the "adventures in an ancestor's body" concept.
