The Walking Dead & Match.com teaming up to get single fans of the show laid

Are you a WALKING DEAD fan? Are you single? I swear I'm not trying to hit on you. I'm only asking because I just might have the best news you've heard all month.

Possibly.

THE WALKING DEAD had its mid-season premiere last night, and coinciding with the premiere Match.com launched a new "entertainment-driven platform" meant to bring single peeps together in the name of their love/hate of Carl/Negan.
 
Match.com CEO Mandy Ginsberg says:

“We realized that with singles in America today, one of the things that they connect on the most is the shows they watch and they love, and we wanted to figure out how to replicate what’s happening in the real world on the Match site and on the app.

When WALKING DEAD airs on Sundays, Match.com invites subscribers to join their “live online viewing party”. The Match.com peeps discovered this "well of untapped potential" after test runs on previous WALKING DEAD episodes  revealed 80% of users stayed for the entire hour-long episode. 

Ginsberg added:

“We were a little nervous because we thought people might be inappropriate or say things that we’d have to monitor, but the fact of the matter is we didn’t need to because people were so into the show and were so funny in talking about what could happen, what they liked, what they didn’t like, it was so organic. It was like they were sitting at brunch with a bunch of friends and talking about what happened on ‘Scandal’ last night.”

A study Match.com conducted found “millennials are 270% more likely than those of other generations to be turned on by someone who watches the same shows as they do." In response to these findings Match.com will be incorporating more shows into their "user experience" soon.

Ginsberg says:

“People didn’t used to talk about series, but now we all sit down and blow through them pretty quickly, so we think about shows in terms of series, and no one talked like that five years ago,” Ginsberg said. “If we can have people connect over series, that’s something we’re very excited about, I think it could change the game in terms of starting real conversations.”

Match.com hasn't announced which other shows will get the "single people hook up" treatment, but let's hope to God they do one for the upcoming AMERICAN HORROR STORY season, as those are the type of girls I'm looking to make friends with.

What a cool time to be a WALKING DEAD nerd and single, huh? Yeah, not so much… But this is a step in the right direction.
