“Statistically you are more likely to die in a hospital than anywhere else.”
It is official. THE VOID just became the second entry on my top “must-see” upcoming horror flicks. Second to only STEPHEN KING’S IT. Wow. I mean we have seen TWO great trailers at this point, and a bevy of pimp posters, but I have to say this new trailer is a new kind of monster.
Creepy, enigmatic images? Check. Burning b*tches on the front lawn? Check. Crazy creature concoctions? Check. Everything an 80s horror fan could dream of? Check. Check. Check. I know this is only setting myself up for disappointment, but I think THE VOID might just be the new horror classic we talk about for years. Please let me be right about that…
I’m excited either way as this film, as I have described before, seems to me like an amazing combo of John Carpenter flicks (specifically, THE THING, PRINCE OF DARKNESS, and ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 ) and, most excitingly, Lucio Fulci’s THE BEYOND – which just might be one of my top favorite horror movies of all-time.
I’m also picking up on a vibe that seems to match, or better yet EXCEED, that which the John Carpenter-directed episode of MASTERS OF HORROR: PRO-LIFE was going for. Maybe that’s because I just re-watched the episode (buy it HERE) or maybe that’s what the directors are going for.
THE VOID synopsis:
In the middle of a routine patrol, officer Daniel Carter happens upon a blood-soaked figure limping down a deserted stretch of road. He rushes the young man to a nearby rural hospital staffed by a skeleton crew, only to discover that patients and personnel are transforming into something inhuman. As the horror intensifies, Carter leads the other survivors on a hellish voyage into the subterranean depths of the hospital in a desperate bid to end the nightmare before it’s too late.
We’ll all find out if THE VOID is as game-changing as it appears sooner than later as is currently scheduled to hit the US April 7th. Check out the new NSFW trailer below and enjoy!
