Pregnant women get into a special screening of Prevenge for free!

Hahaha. You have to give it to the people who not only thought up this ingenious little marketing scheme, but whoever wrote the press release for the event needs a slap on the back as well. I see a lot of press releases doing this job (like, a lot) and this is by far my favorite one thus far. Why not have a little fun in the press release, right?

Let me share some choice bits with you. First off, the press release begins with this title:

SHUDDER Cordially Invites You to Give Birth* at a Special New York City Preview Screening of Alice Lowe’s Critically Acclaimed Horror Comedy PREVENGE.

*Not really. Please give birth in a safe and comfortable environment.

That's fun bit number one. Here is number two:

Directed while Lowe was 7 1/2 months pregnant, PREVENGE stars Lowe as Ruth, a pregnant woman driven to a murderous rampage by her misanthropic unborn spawn who tells her to kill, kill, KILL! Darker than a womb on a moonless night, PREVENGE is Juno meets The Son of Sam, wherein Ruth’s bitter blastula with daddy issues, a barking mad bun in the oven, prods and pokes at her with a sort of reverse amniocentesis of rage, sending her on a killing spree.** You’ll never look at an ultrasound in the same way again!

** Don’t worry, this is really unlikely.

I think it would be a good idea for other marketing teams to take a cue from, again, not only this event SHUDDER has set up, but this press release in general. Have fun with your stuff, guys. You only get one shot to make an impression.

I'm just going to include the whole thing here for your future reference, PR people. You're welcome. This is the first time such a release has sealed the deal for me, and guaranteed I will be checking out the film asap.

PREVENGE synopsis:

A pitch black, wryly British horror comedy from the mind of Alice Lowe (“Sightseers,” “Hot Fuzz,” “Paddington”) that’s as funny as it is vicious, PREVENGE follows Ruth, a pregnant woman on a killing spree. It's her misanthropic unborn baby dictating Ruth's actions, holding society responsible for the absence of a father. Writer/director/star Alice Lowe on the idea for PREVENGE:

“When brainstorming this film I thought ‘What would be funnier than a dog telling someone to kill?'. Ventriloquist dummies, God, demons…all have been used and then I thought ‘what’s funnier than a psychotic fetus convincing its mother to kill?’ My own fetus was nothing but sunshine, rainbows and lollipops, of course."

PREVENGE marks the directorial debut from Lowe (star and co-writer of Ben Wheatley’s SIGHTSEERS), who is a true triple threat, writing, directing, and acting in the film during her own real-life pregnancy. It received a British Independent Film Award nomination for Best Directorial Debut.
