Producer updates on World War Z 2, hopes Fincher will direct

World War Z Brad Pitt

It's already been almost four years since the release of WORLD WAR Z, a somewhat troubled movie that used the novel by Max Brooks as a source of inspiration but wasn't the adaptation many fans of the book would have liked to see. There are varying opinions on how the film turned out (we have a 5/10 review from Chris Bumbray and a 7/10 review from The Arrow in our archives), but regardless of how we felt about the first WORLD WAR Z, I think many of us would be able to agree that it would be very exciting if the long-awaited sequel were to be directed by David Fincher.

Yes, WORLD WAR Z star Brad Pitt has managed to pull his SEVEN / FIGHT CLUB director David Fincher into talks with Paramount to direct WORLD WAR Z 2, and word is that Fincher is, rather unexpectedly, "very creatively interested" in taking the helm of the project.

There is a chance that Fincher could direct WORLD WAR Z 2. He wants to direct WORLD WAR Z 2. And while the sequel continues to move forward at a sluggish pace (much more slowly than the extremely quick zombies in that first movie), I have to cling to any piece of hope I'm presented with so I can believe that Fincher is going to direct WORLD WAR Z 2.

The latest scrap of hope comes from producer David Ellison, who gave Collider's Steve Weintraub a quick update on the sequel's status:

There’s a script that we’re incredibly happy with, and it’s just getting a couple of key deals closed… We hope [Fincher] makes the movie."

I hope so, too!

Fincher was said to be happy with a draft of the script that had been written by Dennis Kelly. Hopefully that's the same one Ellison says they're incredibly happy with. Now those deals need to close and this project needs to move forward with Fincher officially signed on.
