Mick Garris is one of my favorite names in the horror world. Not only has he written and directed some top flicks (SLEEPWALKERS!), but also hosts the must-subscribe podcast POST MORTEM which I look forward to every Wednesday (the new Walter Hill episode went up this week).
One of the top things Garris is known for is the Showtime anthology series MASTERS OF HORROR. Recently, Garris sat down with Nerdist to talk all things anthology and dropped some info on a new anthology he is working on.
Mick Garris on new "secret" anthology:
I’m working on putting together an anthology movie that will be coming together very soon. It’s kind of secret right now but we are well into it and just making something I think, for genre fans of which I count myself one, will be very, very happy with and excited about.
He then went on to talk about how he enticed John Carpenter to come out of his self-imposed retirement:
He’d been treated like s**t by the studios. Then he had so much fun on Masters of Horror that that’s why he went back and did The Ward and that turned out to not be his favorite experience either… But we got Tobe Hooper to do great stuff, John Landis, Joe Dante. We were able to bring people over like Dario Argento and go to Japan and do it with Takashi Miike and it was really an amazing kind of once-in-a-lifetime experience.
I miss MASTER OF HORROR, and I can only hope this new anthology flick is a return to that form. Can you imagine, Landis, Dante, maybe even, gasp, John Carpenter returning to feature directing? Too cool of an idea.
But I'm getting ahead of myself here. We will let you know once we hear more on this secret anthology. Until then, you can check out all of Garris' interview RIGHT HERE.
