Last year, 20th Century Fox had great success when they released the R-rated superhero film DEADPOOL on February 12th, and that's a success they were hoping to repeat by releasing director Shane Black's likely to be R-rated film THE PREDATOR on February 9th, 2018. But plans have now changed at Fox.
While shuffling the release dates of all of the potential blockbusters on their 2018 schedule, the studio has decided to move THE PREDATOR out of the DEADPOOL winter slot and into late summer. Its new release date is August 3, 2018.
The immediate reaction to a film being delayed is often concern, but there's no reason to be concerned about THE PREDATOR being pushed back to August. This will give the movie a chance at some summertime play in a month that is, as of right now, not very crowded. The news certainly wasn't upsetting to Black; the move to August is a decision he fully supports.
Scripted by Black and his THE MONSTER SQUAD collaborator Fred Dekker, THE PREDATOR is an "inventive sequel" to 1987's PREDATOR that stars Boyd Holbrook, Jacob Tremblay, Yvonne Strahovski, Olivia Munn, Keegan-Michael Key, Sterling K. Brown, Trevante Rhodes, Thomas Jane, Alfie Allen, Augusto Aguilera, Jake Busey, and Edward James Olmos.
@MrHreviews In truth, I endorsed this entirely. It's a great thing — also, a bit of a relief not to open against Marvel's Black Panther in Feb.
