Recent Academy Award winner Christopher Nelson, who won a "Best Achievement in Makeup" Oscar for his work on SUICIDE SQUAD, has been hired to head up the special effects department on the upcoming HALLOWEEN sequel from director David Gordon Green and Blumhouse Productions.
Nelson's career goes back to the early '90s, with his other credits including RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD III, the KILL BILL films (in which he also played Uma Thurman's ill-fated groom), SIN CITY, episodes of The Walking Dead, and THE TRIPPER, where he played the Reagan-masked slasher.
Working with Nelson on the film is Vincent Van Dyke, who has received Emmy nominations for his work on Grey's Anatomy and Nip/Tuck. Van Dyke previously worked with HALLOWEEN star Jamie Lee Curtis on the television series Scream Queens. The film's FX makeup coordinator is Stephanie A. Ford, who held that same position in Nelson's FX crew on the recently released Netflix film BRIGHT.
Written by Green and Danny McBride, this new entry in the HALLOWEEN franchise is expected to ignore every other HALLOWEEN movie except John Carpenter's 1978 original. Carpenter is serving as executive producer on the sequel and is expected to compose the score as well.
Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.
Curtis is joined in the cast by Judy Greer as Laurie's daughter Karen and Andi Matichak as Laurie's granddaughter Allyson. Original Michael Myers performer Nick Castle is reprising the role forty years later, with an assist from stuntman James Jude Courtney.
Tyler Mane, who played Myers in Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN remake and HALLOWEEN II, has welcomed Castle back to the series with the following message:
I couldn’t be happier to hear that NICK CASTLE is coming back to play the role of Michael Myers in the new film. Thank you for letting me borrow the suit for a time. Shout out to @johncarpenterofficial #jamieleecurtis and all the OG crew coming back to the franchise! #cantwait #fanboy #halloween
Castle can be seen preparing for the return of Michael Myers in the Instagram video below.
HALLOWEEN begins filming in Charleston, South Carolina this month.
