Yesterday that we shared with you guys the creepy new trailer for the upcoming flick SLENDER MAN.
It goes without saying that the new film is, duh, about Slender Man creepypasta, but what do the people affected by the legend in real life (as documented in HBO's BEWARE THE SLENDER MAN) think about the new film?
Well, we know one of the parents isn't happy about the tragedy being turned into teen horror fair. Bill Weier is the father of one of the girls who lured their friend out into the woods and stabbed her (almost) to death, all in the name of the Slender Man, and he recently spoke to THR about his feelings regarding the new film.
Bill Weier on SLENDER MAN:
It's absurd they want to make a movie like this. It's popularizing a tragedy is what it's doing. I'm not surprised, but in my opinion, it's extremely distasteful. All we're doing is extending the pain all three of these families have gone through.
What do you think of Weier's comments? Do you think the film is exploiting a tragedy or merely the creepypasta legend? Make sure to hit us up and let us know in the comments below or on social media.
SLENDER MAN synopsis:
In a small town in Massachusetts, four high school girls perform a ritual in an attempt to debunk the lore of SLENDER MAN. When one of the girls goes mysteriously missing, they begin to suspect that she is, in fact, HIS latest victim.
The film is directed by Sylvain White (STOMP THE YARD) from a script by David Birke and stars Joey King, Julia Goldani-Telles, Jaz Sinclair, Annalise Basso, and Javier Botet.
SLENDER MAN creeps into theaters May 18, 2018.
