There's just something I really like about the blending of a horror story with the imagery of scarecrows. In my opinion, there aren't nearly enough scarecrow-based horror films out there – and there especially aren't enough good ones. So I was excited to hear that one of the genre projects Breakthrough Entertainment is presenting to potential buyers at the European Film Market is a film titled SCARECROWS, which is coming to us from the team of director Stu Stone and producer Adam Rodness, who wrote the screenplay together.
The synopsis:
While on a hike to find a secret lagoon, a group of teenagers have no choice but to pass through an ominous cornfield. Unbeknownst to them, the farm owner despises trespassers and has vowed to kill anyone who crosses his land by turning them into living scarecrows, leaving them to rot in his fields. Once one goes up… it never comes down.
The shorter version:
Teenagers are kidnapped and turned into living scarecrows to die of starvation in a farmer's fields.
That sounds pretty messed up… and also like a film that could be right up my alley. Judging by the trailer embedded below, it has a chance at being fairly entertaining.
SCARECROWS stars Hannah Gordon, Umed Abdullah, Mike Taylor, Jason J. Johnston, Maaor Ziv, and Derek Christoff. Hopefully the presentation at the EFM will be leading to some distribution deals.
