Castle Rock will feature Ph.D.-level Stephen King easter eggs

I'm literally chomping at the bit to check out Hulu's upcoming 10-episode series CASTLE ROCK. Not only is the series produced by J.J. Abrams, but it's set within and inspired by the works of Mr. Stephen King. And speaking of Stephen King, as we could have expected, the new series will be filled with tons of cool easter eggs to King's work. But that said, the easter eggs will not be a distraction, say co-showrunners Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason.

Co-showrunner Sam Shaw:

The impulse was to try to write a show that can be fun and pleasurable for somebody who has no experience reading Stephen King but also to satiate people who want to nerd out. There's definitely some Ph.D.-level deep-cut [references].

Co-showrunner Dustin Thomason:

We've seen things that are so packed full with Easter eggs that it becomes kind of dizzying. …It was important to us [that the references] all had meaning.

I'm pretty much a Ph.D.-level King fan so I cannot wait to dig through the series once it hits and find any and all of these references. Or, you know, look up some YouTube super-nerd's weekly videos and let him/her do all the heavy lifting for me. But I think I'm kidding. I think. Anyhow, the series is set to premiere its first three episodes on July 25th so make sure to mark your calendars. For those who might not be up on their horror TV news, the new Hulu series stars Andre Holland as Henry, who:

As a child was involved in an accident that left his father dead and him the sole suspect, but he has no memory of it and eventually fled when townspeople turned against him. Now a death-row attorney with few connections — his clients, see, usually die — Henry only returned home because a mysterious inmate at Shawshank State Penitentiary (Bill Skarsgård), who was discovered in a cage deep beneath the facility, asked for him. Only him. Yet, Henry has never heard of the inmate — and the inmate, nicknamed “The Kid,” has been in solitary confinement so long that he may be insane.

The show co-stars Melanie Lynskey, Jane Levy, Sissy Spacek, Bill Skarsgård, Scott Glenn, and Terry O'Quinn and again is set to premiere its first three episodes on Hulu July 25th.
