I guess it was only a matter of time until someone thought, "Instead of a gaggle of teenagers at a summer camp, what if there was a slasher flick set in the world of softcore porn?" I know you're beating yourself up for not thinking of it first. Naturally, this new flick is a horror-comedy and today we have word via THR that Screen Media has snatched up North American rights to DEEP MURDER, which premiered at the LA Film Festival in September.
Jerry O’Connell (STAND BY ME, SCREAM 2, PIRANHA 3D) Chris Redd (Saturday Night Live), and Katie Aselton (BLACK ROCK, MINDHUNTER) star in the comedy-horror from the first-time director Nick Corirossi, which is set in an alternate reality of a tacky soft-core porn film, where
a group of increasingly self-aware stock characters are up against a mysterious killer offing them one by one.
Citing Kevin Spacey's recent infamous flop, Corirossi says:
I set out to make a film both funnier and more successful than Billionaire Boys Club and I have 100 percent accomplished that. Deep Murder is The Phantom Menace of soft-core porn comedy horrors.
"The Phantom Menace of soft-core porn comedy horrors." Har, har. But seriously, I'm looking forward to checking out this film, if for no other reason than the involvement of Katie Aselton, who is an actress that I have been following since her days working on mumblecore movies such as THE PUFFY CHAIR with her husband Mark Duplass (CREEP). Jerry O'Connell has me intrigued as well. And, you know, the basic plot is pretty killer.
DEEP MURDER was written by Josh Margolin, Quinn Beswick, Nikolai Von Keller, and Benjamin Smolen. Dark Web Productions, Defiant Studios, and Life Entertainment, in association with Slated produce. Eric B. Fleischman, Andrew Swett, Jesse Berger, Brent Johnson, Drew Foster, and Patrick McErlean produced, with Teddy Cabugos, Michael Yedwab, Craig Dobbin, Alan Sliper, Cary Anderson and Christopher McDonald as executive producers. Carl Braid is a co-executive producer and Josh Berger is co-producer.
Screen Media plans to give the film a multiplatform release in the first half of 2019. Will you be checking it out? Let us know below!
