It looks like a Swamp Thing is going to face a Floronic Man on the upcoming DC Universe series based on the DC Comics title Swamp Thing. Kevin Durand has been cast in the role of Jason Woodrue, a character from the comics who also goes by the names Floronic Man, Plant Master, Floro, or The Seeder when he's doing villainous things like using his botanical knowledge to "control plant growth in an attempt to take over the world." Like the heroic Swamp Thing, Woodrue is another character who becomes a plant/human hybrid… At least, he does in the source material. It's not certain what he'll be doing on the DC Universe show.
Durand's previous roles include Jeeves Tremor in SMOKIN' ACES, Fred "The Blob" Dukes in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, Martin Keamy on Lost, Barry Burton in RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION, and Vasiliy Fet on The Strain (pictured above).
The actor's co-stars on Swamp Thing will include Andy Bean as biologist Alec Holland, whose "conflict with dark forces" leads to him becoming the title character, and Crystal Reed as CDC Doctor Abby Arcane, who
investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.
Also in the cast are Maria Sten, Jeryl Prescott, Jennifer Beals, Virginia Madsen, Will Patton, and Henderson Wade, with Derek Mears as Swamp Thing himself.
James Wan's company Atomic Monster is producing Swamp Thing in association with Warner Bros. Television. Len Wiseman is directing the pilot episode, which was written by Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman. Wan, Wiseman, Verheiden, and Dauberman also serve as executive producers on the series with Michael Clear. Rob Hackett is co-producer.
Swamp Thing will premiere on the DC Universe streaming service sometime in 2019.
