Guillermo Del Toro has a lot on his plate, what with HELLBOY 2, TARZAN, and 3993 on deck for the next few years. He’s had to turn down involvement in a number of films because of his insane schedule but one passion project that he seems to really be trying to hold on to is his H.P Lovecraft adaptation AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS. The director recently revealed that Warner Bros. is financing the making of a MOUNTAINS trailer, presumably to look at for a greenlighting decision. El Mayimbe at Latino Review did his thing with the film’s script this week and gave it an extremely positive review (he gave it an A+), yelling at the studio for sitting on the movie, insisting that it would be Del Toro’s “crowning masterpiece (strong words after PAN) and that Lovecraft would “finally get his justice on screen” Read more about the script in the possibly somewhat spoilery review HERE. PAN’S LABYRINTH, meanwhile, will open wider in the near future and HELLBOY 2: THE GOLDEN ARMY begins shooting in a few months in time for some June 2008 theater-hittage while 3993, the final installment of the Spanish Civil War trilogy that includes THE DEVIL’S BACKBONE and PAN, is scheduled for a 2009 release. Expect to see TARZAN some time within a similar time frame. Del Toro is also currently penning an adaptation of the DC Comic DEADMAN, and I’m wondering what the status is on the version of Roald Dahl’s WITCHES that was announced last year.
