I find it odd when an animated film chooses to hawk the movie stars involved with the project over anything else. Does it really matter who’s doing the voices? I actually find that the bigger the names, the more it distracts from the actual story. That’s why the new teaser trailer for Dreamworks’ KUNG FU PANDA bugs me a little. It seems to be following in the footsteps of next week’s Dreamworks animated release BEE MOVIE, where the film’s star, Jerry Seinfeld appeared in a series of live action promos that veered from your typical animated movie trailer.
This new trailer for PANDA seems to be up to the same thing, but with less creativity. It’s as though the producers told Black to get in front of the camera and to just ‘be Jack Black, but with some Kung Fu flavor.” Then it goes on to brag about what big-name voices are a part of the cast, even going so far as to show their faces next to their CGI counterparts. I suppose when your cast includes Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, and Jackie Chan, you don’t want to let that slide. Either way, the movie is released on June 6th and you can check out the trailer over HERE.
