Alejandro Amenábar is a young, Latin director who has made some notable films in his early career. He broke into the mainstream with THE OTHERS and followed that up with the art-house sensation THE SEA INSIDE, starring sudden superstar Javier Bardem. His next film is called AGORA and it stars Rachel Weisz and Max Minghella, who tragically just lost his father, the director Anthony Minghella.
AGORA is a historical drama set in Egypt and it “concerns a slave who turns to the rising tide of Christianity in the hopes of pursuing freedom while also falling in love with his master, a female philosophy professor and atheist,” according to IMDb. Below is some promotional artwork for the film, which could either be an epic success a la ENGLISH PATIENT, or an epic failure, a la FOUR FEATHERS. Thanks to ‘Rui’ for the heads up.
