Amanda Peet has signed on to star in the upcoming Roland Emmerich disaster movie disaster 2012. Peet will join John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Danny Glover and Oliver Platt in the cast. Peet will play Cusack’s ex-wife who’s recently been married to a wealthy man. So we get family melodrama as a backdrop to our global cataclysm. Cusack will play a writer/limo driver. 2012 (which has also been casting as FAREWELL ATLANTIS for some reason) was written by Emmerich and Harald Kloser who last teamed on the ridiculous but money making prehistoric flick 10,000 BC. Sony Pictures would love to get the project moving this July to make the previously announced July 10, 2009 release. That pesky SAG strike threatens the start of production though, especially after yesterday’s comments from guild president Alan Rosenberg, who expressed skepticism that a deal would be reached before the current contract expires on June 30. Peet can be seen this summer in X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE where she plays… who knows what the f*ck she plays. She could be the antichrist in that movie for all we know.
