Now that Baz Luhrmann is done with World War II era Australian Outback and its tendency to make hot English aristocrats wanna make the sex with hunky mancake ranch handlers, he’s decided to move on to the Roaring Twenties’ with an adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby”. He doesn’t even have a script at the moment but he intends to get started on it as soon as he’s done with the awards run for AUSTRALIA. Though given the feeble critical reception AUSTRALIA’s received, he’s being very optimistic about its awards chances (maybe if they decide to create a category for beefcake?). The Great Gatsby, of course, centers on Nick Carraway and his famous neighbor Jay Gatsby as they navigate the excess and debauchery of a post World War I USA. Let’s hope Luhrmann has better luck with this one.
