A remake of the science fiction classic FORBIDDEN PLANET has been floating around for a while now and in its current incarnation, Warner Bros. has tasked scribe J. Michael Straczynski with giving a modern edge to the story of a starship sent to investigate the reason behind the sudden silence of a distant planet colonized by genius scientists. Now the folks over at the IESB have learned that James Cameron has expressed interest in making the film one of his future projects. Of course, he was attached to direct the flick way back when he was doing TITANIC but that fizzled, TITANIC went on to become the highest grossing film of all time and he decided to spend the next ten years in a fancy pants submersible. But now that WB is in active development on PLANET, he’s apparently decided he wants in on that bad boy once again, especially with all the high tech CG wizardry he’s developed and using in the science fiction epic AVATAR. Who knows if he’ll do this after AVATAR, though, as he’s also attached to direct BATTLE ANGEL and THE DIVE.
Cameron’s next?
