The ongoing legal battle between Warner Bros. and Fox over the theatrical distribution rights to the upcoming WATCHMEN movie is continuing in California’s Federal District Court with Judge Gary Allen Fees issuing a ruling on the 24th that Fox has a “right to distribute” the movie. Now before we go storming Fox headquarters with pitchforks and torches, this doesn’t necessarily mean that WATCHMEN will a) be delayed, b) never see the light of day or c) be cut and edited down by Fox. Both Warner Bros. and Fox have a vested financial interest in the success of the movie and all this means is that Warner Bros. may have to eventually pony up some cash to Fox. And while that’s sucky news for Warner Bros., it’s no real skin of my back as a WATCHMEN fan. Now if there are significant delays (which is possible if Warner Bros. intends to fight this tooth and nail) then I’d be pissed. I’ve gotten a lot of angry e-mails about this and I think we should all just chill and wait and see what happens. Sending e-mails to the judge isn’t going to help. A full and more detailed ruling from the judge is expected on Wednesday. Stay tuned…
