Portman in Thor?

While Marvel and director Kenneth Branagh are poring over the possibilities for who could star as Thor, it looks like they’ve already found another actor to star in their film. According to Deadline Hollywood, Natalie Portman is already set to play the female lead in THOR. It was just a throwaway line at the end of a casting report on actors who have tested to star as Thor (actors include Charlie Hunnam, Tom Hiddleston and the previously mentioned Alexandar Skarsgard) so it’s unclear what role she would play. If I had to guess, I would say it’s likely she’d be playing Enchantress, an Asgardian goddess who served as Thor’s ally, advisor and sometime lover. If they’re following comic continuum, there’s also a pretty good Enchantress twist that involves the script’s villain (and Thor’s brother) Loki. Without a big name as Thor or Loki (Josh Hartnett seems to be the leading candidate for the latter), it would certainly help to have some of Portman’s notoriety to the film. And it’s certainly better casting than Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow…
