Craven talks Scream

When we reported that writer Kevin Williamson was working on a potential updated version of the SCREAM trilogy, most of us were in agreement that it was an all around bad idea. Well now the main man himself, the director of all three original films and master of terror Wes Craven chimes in on where he stands with the proposed project.

Bob Weinstein has talked to me, he’s interested in me directing it. I had a brief conversation with Kevin [Williamson], I know that Kevin is writing. What I’ve said to Bob is I’m not closed to it, I’m not open to it, I’ll be perfectly happy to read a script and tell him what I think. That’s where it’s at and I’m not expecting a script until August. I don’t know what the premise is or anything.

So it seems that Craven isn’t exactly jumping in with both feet, but he hasn’t totally rejected the idea either. Let’s just say he’s keeping an open mind, shall we? He also said that the Arquettes are confirmed to star and are the only ones returning from the original trilogy. I for one am shocked, considering their fruitful film careers, but I guess they’re just revisiting their roots, aren’t they. Read the rest of Wes Craven’s interview with Digital Spy HERE.
