A new Excalibur?

The legends of King Arthur, Excalibur and the Knights of the Round Table have been told numerous times, but probably never how prolific comic writer Warren Ellis might conjure.

The persistently imaginative scribe is tackling the tale himself, as the mad Brit mentions at his site: “I’m writing a film treatment for Hollywood Gang, who co-produced Frank Miller’s 300. Hollywood Gang have previously optioned my graphic novel (with Chris Sprouse) OCEAN. On my desk, the treatment is called Untitled Arthurian Project. On their desk, the project is called EXCALIBUR.”

Ellis offers a bit more info on the project to AICN, saying that it “differs from the prior 751 King Arthur movies in many ways, but perhaps most obviously in that it is very specifically about the gathering of the Knights.” I’d personally rather see a movie based on Ellis’ historical account CRECY, but hopefully the producers let him off the leash for this.

After his book GLOBAL FREQUENCY was adapted to television but never got past the pilot (despite its popularity when leaked online), it seems like Ellis is finally getting his due. Aside from OCEAN, his retired-spy miniseries RED is in the pipe with Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman, and he’s been all over the place with other stuff — he also recently wrote the G.I. JOE: RESOLUTE webseries and the stories for the upcoming Marvel Anime (like the IRON MAN one below).
