Soul Train: The Movie

Seems that with the recent passing of John Hughes and Michael Jackson, the 80s are fast becoming an object of strong nostalgia from which Hollywood can plunge indefinitely for inspiration. Or remakes. Or late sequels.

Warner and former TV host Don Cornelius are counting on scribe Malcolm Spellman to provide a script based around the long-running TV show Soul Train, with a storyline aimed at kids from the 80s. The story would follow a street dancer from the MC Hammer era who mounts an act for the show in hopes of hitting it big. Yay, another teen-dancing movie…

All of the hip-hop street dances you see today were born during that time period and were first seen on that show,” Spellman told Variety. “Writing with Don involved is quite an experience. He’s still the godfather of cool.”  Didn’t the Godfather of cool get arrested for beating up his wife recently? We get the heroes we can, I guess…
