Logan’s Run back on track, commerical filmmaker Carl Rinsch to helm

Filmmaker Carl Erik Rinsch should be somewhat familiar around these parts. The commercial director is a part of Ridley Scott Associates and was once attached to direct the ALIEN prequel (as well as X-MEN: FIRST CLASS before it eventually went to Matthew Vaughn). He’s also currently attached to direct the big-budget period project 47 RONIN at Universal. And most recently, Rinsch kicked off a bidding war with his amazing short film THE GIFT. The guy’s legit, he’s certainly got chops, and Hollywood knows it.

So it should come as no surprise that Warner Bros. is shifting back into gear on LOGAN’S RUN now with Rinsch at the helm.

LOGAN’S RUN, based on the 1967 book by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson, is probably best known for the trippy (seriously, don’t watch this thing high) 1976 film starring Michael York, Jenny Agutter, and Farrah Fawcett. The premise, according to THR’s Heat Vision blog, “sees a future society that demands the death of everyone upon reaching a certain age. Anyone who veers from that destiny is dubbed a ‘runner’ and is hunted by operatives known as Sandmen. Logan is a Sandman who is forced to go on the run.”

The project has been over at WB since the mid-90s but it briefly gained steam back in 2004 when Bryan Singer became attached to develop and direct. He, however, opted to make SUPERMAN RETURNS instead, and, well, we all know how that turned out.

The new LOGAN’S RUN still has a ways to go, though. The next step now that Rinsch is on board will be to hire a new writer to pen a new script.
