Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell may not be the first comedic duo you’d think of, but watching
THE OTHER
GUYS it’s hard to think of anyone who could do better as Hoitz and Gamble, the fumbling and stumbling NYPD detectives who have team up against their wishes. While Wahlberg brings a new comedic turn on his more straight-laced characters (I half-expected him to say hello to my mother during the film), Ferrell counters with a straighter send-up of his always-funny roles. The result is two great actors meeting in the middle to pull of an even greater film.
No joke about it, THE OTHER GUYS is a smart, irreverant send-up of the buddy-cop genre that still manages to say something very serious and important about white collar crimes. If you don’t believe me, stay for the credits, which are infused with a heavy dose of enlightening infographics, but for now content yourself with Ferrell and Wahlberg discussing their work as
THE OTHER GUYS and, more importantly, how they felt being “harassed” by each other.
