Cameron gives us Avatar sequel news and a deleted scene

James Cameron has created the biggest film of all time (again) and boy does he know it. He’s no longer going to take 15 years in between projects, and between being attached to every other epic movie pitch under the sun, it really seems like he wants to get going on AVATAR sequels relatively soon. Before the public loses interest perhaps?

He had a lot to say about his future plans for the series when talking with ComingSoon. Here’s his current plan:

“Our plan right now is to do two and three as a single large production and release them a year apart,” Cameron said, “In order to do that, we have to refine our technical processes beyond the end of where we were finishing ‘Avatar’ one a year ago. We need to future-proof ourselves out five or six years to the end of the third film.”

As for plot details? We’ve heard about exploring other moons and such, but what about the characters? Cameron hints that you could see some returning faces you might not expect.

“Who said she died?” Cameron teased with a big grin, “Nobody dies in a science fiction movie. Whether Grace lives or dies depends more on Sigourney’s agent than anything.”

Yeah, people die in science fiction movies. At least the good ones. But hey, do what you want.

Cameron was also recently at Spike’s Scream Awards, which has somehow positioned itself as some kind of big film footage premiere event, and showed us one of the deleted scenes from the upcoming new AVATAR DVD. It features Jake Sully, earthbound and wheelchairbound, kicking ass in a bar fight before being unceremoniously thrown out on his paralyzed ass. Check it out:
