The Conan reboot gets a release date

Lest you thought the 3D craze was perhaps petering out, Lionsgate has set an August 19, 2011 release date for CONAN, making it the third film releasing on that date in 3D. The means all the new releases that weekend – including Disney’s FRIGHT NIGHT and The Weinstein Co.’s SPY KIDS 4 – will all be in 3D.

Keeping in mind that theaters will very likely still be showing CAPTAIN AMERICA and THE SMURFS in 3D those weekends, that’s a lot of demand for 3D screens. It’s possible that one of these films will eventually back off but remember to mid-August of this year when SCOTT PILGRIM, THE EXPENDABLES and EAT, PRAY, LOVE all faced off on the same weekend (though none were in 3D).

As for CONAN, you can bet that this new release date will mean a big push for the film at next year’s Comic-Con, which will take place about three weeks prior to its release. CONAN, directed by Marcus Nispel, stars Jason Momoa, Stephen Lang, Rachel Nichols and Rose McGowan.
