When I watch a trailer for a kid’s film, I try to get in the mind set of the much younger me. Would I have been excited for this movie when I was little? I’m not sure what the kids are into these days. I had no idea what silly bands were until a few weeks ago.
So I kept the kid frame of mind when watching this trailer for MARS NEEDS MOMS!. I still did not find it appealing. Now, kids that are really fascinated by space might love it. For me, the whole time I was like, “Is that really Seth Green’s pre-teen voice?” It’s so strange. Speaking of strange, Joan Cusack does the voice of the mom. I love that woman. I’m always excited when she’s in something, like ADDAMS FAMILY VALUES, “M-A-L-I-B-U Bar-bie.” The story is based off the book by Berkeley Breathed, a Pulitzer-Prize winner for his comic strip “Bloom County”. The film was directed by Simon Wells (BALTO, THE TIME MACHINE) and produced by none other than Robert Zemeckis.
Bottom line, as a grown-up who enjoys kids films this didn’t really win me over. But I think boys that are between the ages of 6-9 might enjoy it.
Synopsis:
“Take out the trash, eat your broccoli—who needs moms, anyway? Nine-year-old Milo (Seth Green) finds out just how much he needs his mom (Joan Cusack) when she’s nabbed by Martians who plan to steal her mom-ness for their own young. Produced by the team behind “Disney’s A Christmas Carol” and “The Polar Express,” “Mars Needs Moms” showcases Milo’s quest to save his mom—a wild adventure in Disney Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D that involves stowing away on a spaceship, navigating an elaborate, multi-level planet and taking on the alien nation and their leader (Mindy Sterling). With the help of a tech-savvy, underground earthman named Gribble (Dan Fogler) and a rebel Martian girl called Ki (Elisabeth Harnois), Milo just might find his way back to his mom—in more ways than one.”
