It was more evident in the Comic-Con footage from 2010, but all the trailers and footage for SUCKER PUNCH since have almost completely downplayed the fact that there is a serious musical element to the film. I haven’t seen the film yet so I can’t be clear how exactly they tie into the film but I do remember the girls mentioning they studied as much dance choreography as they did fight choreography (I also remember thinking there was as much MOULIN ROUGE in the film as there was PAN’S LABYRINTH or LORD OF THE RINGS).
But now that the soundtrack listing has been revealed, we get a clearer idea on what songs will be propelling the film and which actress will be leading that song. It’s an odd mix that includes The Eurythmics, Queen, The Beatles and The Pixies. Here’s the full listing including who sings the song in the film and who originally recorded the song:
1. “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)” – Emily Browning (originally The Eurythmics)
2. “Army Of Me (Sucker Punch Remix)” – Björk featuring Skunk Anansie
3. “White Rabbit” – Emiliana Torrini
(originally Jefferson Airplane)
4. “I Want It All”/“We Will Rock You” Mash-Up – Queen with Armageddon Aka Geddy
5. “Search And Destroy” – Skunk Anansie (originally The Stooges)
6. “Tomorrow Never Knows” – Alison Mosshart and Carla Azar
(originally The Beatles)
7. “Where Is My Mind?” – Yoav featuring Emily Browning
(originally The Pixies)
8. “Asleep” – Emily Browning
9. “Love Is The Drug” – Carla Gugino and Oscar Isaac (originally Roxy Music)
“White Rabbit” seems a little obvious given the movie but OK. I haven’t been hearing good things about the film from people who’ve seen early cuts but it’s so…out there, I can’t write it off completely. Below we’ve got a sample of the soundtrack in the form of Skunk Anansie’s cover of “Search and Destroy” so take a listen and ponder SUCKER PUNCH.
