That lovely lady doesn’t seem like much of a hideous witch, does she?
That’s why Rachel Weisz is such a good actress. While no stranger to FX-filled movies (THE MUMMY, CONSTANTINE), the Oscar-winner will dig down deep to find her ugly evil core in Sam Raimi’s OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL, the curious pseudo-prequel to the timeless THE WIZARD OF OZ.
Weisz will play Evanora, the most powerful of three witch sisters with designs on reigning over Oz with sorcery. Mila Kunis plays sexy witch sibling Theodora, who gets rejected by James Franco’s (gay?) traveler and then impetuously joins her evil older sis in taking over the fantasy realm.
The third sister has yet to be cast, but Raimi and Disney were previously after actresses like like Olivia Wilde, Amy Adams, Kate Beckinsale, Keira Knightley and Rebecca Hall to fill out the trio.
Franco stars as “a fast-talking snake oil salesman and illusionist who flees a traveling circus and winds up whisked away in a hot air balloon by a tornado to Oz, where he must face off against real magic and the sisters battling for control of the land.”
Robert Downey Jr. was previously attached to star.
