FRANKENWEENIE is a film I mostly forgot was on the way. Because of the long production time for a stop-motion animated film (well, for any animated film, really), it was announced a few years ago and sorted dissolved in my subconscious as I wondered what other live-action Johnny Depp films Tim Burton would be directing next.
But while I’m intrigued to see what Burton and Depp are up to with DARK SHADOWS, I’m more interested to see what happens with Burton’s FRANKENWEENIE. As I’m sure you all know, FRANKENWEENIE was the short film that essentially got Tim Burton fired from Disney for wasting company resources. And now, just short of 20 years later, Disney has given him millions to make a feature film based off of that same short.
I hope a trailer is on its way soon (the similarly dark, stop-motion animated film PARANORMAN gets a trailer in theaters this Friday), but for now we have our first look at official stills from the film. And it looks very much like how you’d think a Tim Burton stop-motion animated film would look. Which is good! Take a look at the new pics below.
