Normally up above I’d post a screenshot of the film or the title credits, but I figured I’d capture this moment, as it’s not one you’ll see very often. Shame is the first mainstream film in a long while to run with its NC-17 rating, and Fox Searchlight claims they’re trying to break free of the tyranny of the classification.
They didn’t want to cut down their film about a sex addict (Michael Fassbender) and his younger sister (Carey Mulligan), and so they left it just the way they wanted it, free from censors. The trailer below is really well done, and absolutely makes me want to see the film, if a theater near me will agree to show it that is. Here’s the official plot synopsis:
Brandon (Michael Fassbender) is a New Yorker who shuns intimacy with women but feeds his desires with a compulsive addiction to sex. When his wayward younger sister (Carey Mulligan) moves into his apartment stirring memories of their shared painful past, Brandon’s insular life spirals out of control.
