Some new images from the adaptation of Steven Chbosky’s THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER have surfaced. Written and Directed by Chbosky, based on his novel, the film centers on a high school freshman named Charlie (Logan Lerman) trying to get over the suicide of his best friend, while also dealing with the rollercoaster of change that is the formative years.
The film has an impressive cast, including Paul Rudd as an English teacher, Emma Watson as the girl of Charlie’s desire, Ezra Miller (WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN) as her brother, Kate Walsh (Private Practice), Nina Dobrey (The Vampire Diaries) and Mae Whitman (SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD).
I read the book a while back and it was an engaging read, even if I’d outgrown those stages of my life by a decade and a half. Still, the source material should garner a good adaptation and with the book’s author at the helm I’d expect a very thorough and faithful film.
I’m interested to see if Emma Watson grows out of her Hermoine Granger role and is able to pull off a career without it. I mean, I’m sure money isn’t an issue for her, but if she wants to step out of the Harry Potter shadow it’s gonna take some work. Some people don’t care to see her in anything else, but I’m a fan. She’s just as cute as a button. I just want to put her in my pocket and carry her around all day and feed her M&M’s.
THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER does not have a release date yet, but it’s likely to bow sometime this year.
