Very much a labor of love by director Martin Scorsese, HUGO is as much a film as it is a celebration of early filmmaking, the journey of discovery, and the wonder of storytelling. And now, in these latter days of Oscar voting, I present to you a behind-the-scenes featurette that, like the dual nature of Scorsese’s film, works to both promote HUGO to voters and further illuminate some of the process and impetus behind the film.
What I actually do really appreciate about this featurette, biased though it may be towards everyone loving and praising Scorsese’s accomplishment, is how it serves to highlight the collaboration necessary to the success of such a film as this. It’s an angle that I don’t always see represented in promotional materials such as this, and so for that alone I’d definitely recommend giving Scorsese and friends your six minutes.
