The Men in Black III viral marketing has begun

MEN IN BLACK III has had a long and rough journey to the big screen and a trailer that doesn’t feel very fresh or unique. Now, they are adding the tried and true viral marketing campaign that we have all seen before.

The banner above has been making it across the internet and some physical billboards emblazoned with a toll free hotline number. When called, the voice recording purports to be “Bug Eyes,” a blogger intent on making news of the Men in Black Suits available to the entire world. There are a few different scenarios you can dial through that eventually lead you to the blog TheMenInBlackSuitsAreReal.com, which is a very rudimentary blog with images from the movie (and possibly the most unwieldy URL ever made).

The fine print at the bottom of the site proclaims it to be a part of the Men In Black Suits Are Real “online experience.” Also a part of that internet game is the website for Wu’s Diamond Garden, the Chinese restaurant featured in the trailer for the film. The Wu’s site is a much better design, boasting an interactive menu filled with disgusting dishes that may or may not contain alien species as the main course.

MEN IN BLACK III just doesn’t get me excited to see it on the big screen. Sure, I enjoyed the first two, but this just feels like a rehash of the exact same thing we have already seen, now in bad 3D.

MEN IN BLACK III opens on May 25th, 2012.
