Every year we get a healthy does of offbeat indie-fare and THE GIANT MECHANICAL MAN slides right into that category perfectly. It’s not going to reinvent the cinematic wheel, but it looks like it could be really fun and, dare I say, heartwarming? I know we all love explosions, superheroes, gritty crime tales, and gross-out comedy, but I’d hate to think that there isn’t a place in the fanboy’s soul for some solid independent dramedy.
The film stars Jenna Fischer (The Office), Chris Messina (Six Feet Under), Malin Ackerman (naked in THE HEARTBREAK KID), and a long-haired Topher Grace (the best Venom ever). It’s kind of a perfect independent film cast; no one too famous, but recognizable enough to generate some interest.
Do the robot:
The film is directed by Lee Kirk, who also happens to be Jenna Fischer’s husband. It looks like a pleasant little film, which can be a nice break from all the other stuff we’re inundated with. It’s not Woody Allen, sure, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t be a good time.
THE GIANT MECHANICAL MAN is playing at the Tribeca Film Festival this month and will hit VOD on April 27, 2012.
