With the recent casting of Russell Crowe in the title role, Darren Aronofsky’s biblical epic/re-imagining NOAH has been finally gaining the traction it so richly deserves. And now fans of the upcoming film, of which there are many on this site, have a release date to which they can hungrily look forward: March 28th, 2014.
“Since I was a kid, I have been moved and inspired by the story of Noah and his family’s journey,” Aronofsky said recently about the project. “The imaginations of countless generations have sparked to this epic story of faith. It’s my hope that I can present a window into Noah’s passion and perseverance for the silver screen.”
I have the sneaking suspicion that NOAH is going to be the unlikeliest of blockbusters. Hopefully the box office proves this secret wish to be true, and from then on Aronofsky will at last be wholly trusted and truly allowed to do whatever he wishes. To me Darren Aronofsky is a lot like Christopher Nolan, in that they both well deserve the materials and time to let their visions be fully realized. It worked with INCEPTION – we’ll see if the wallets of movie-goers once again reward such breadth of creative vision in a little less than two years.
